Practice EKG Rhythm Strips 231

Identify the following rhythms.

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

Answers

1.
2nd degree AV block type I

The rhythm is irregular with a rate of 70/min.   The P waves are upright and uniform.   There is progressive elongation of the PR interval.   A dropped beat is noted after the 5th complex.  No ectopic beats are noted.  PR:  .24/.28./.32 sec.  QRS:  .08 sec.  QT:  .44 sec.   Interpretation:  2nd degree AV block type I

2.
Sinus bradycardia

The rhythm is regular.   The heart rate is 47/min.  The P waves are uniform, upright, and precede the QRS complexes.   There are no ectopic beats.  PR:  .18 sec,  QRS:  .08 sec,  QT:  .44 sec. Interpretation:  Sinus bradycardia

3.
Loose lead artifact

This is artifact caused by a loose lead.  It may have the appearance of a coarse ventricular fibrillation in lead II but lead V1 show that an organized rhythm is present.

4.
Atrial flutter

The rhythm is regular with a rate of 83/min.   There are flutter waves seen between the QRS complexes.  The QRS complexes are narrow and there are not any ecoptic beats.  PR:  ---,  QRS: .08 sec.  QT:  .20 sec.   Interpretation:  Atrial flutter

5.
Idioventricular rhythm

The rhythm is regular and slow with a rate of 39/min.  No P waves are seen.   The QRS complex is wide so this points toward a ventricular escape mechanism as the underlying cause of the rhythm.  PR:  ---,  QRS:  .12 sec,  QT:  .42 sec.   Interpretation:   Idioventricular rhythm
