Identify the following rhythms. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Answers 1. Sinus arrhythmia with 1st degree block The rhythm is irregular with a rate of 70/min.   The P waves are upright, uniform, and precede the QRS complexes.  The P waves are split which suggests biatrial enlargement.  The PR interval is prolonged.  The QRS is narrow.  No ectopic beats are noted.   PR:  .24 sec,  QRS:  .08 sec,  QT:  .44 sec.   Interpretation:   Sinus arrhythmia with 1st degree block 2.  Idioventricular rhythm The rate is 20/min.  There are no P waves.   The QRS complex is wide which is indicative of a ventricular escape rhythm.  PR:  ---,  QRS:  .18 sec,  QT:  .50 sec.   Interpretation:  Idioventricular rhythm 3.  Atrial fibrillation with multifocal PVCs The rhythm is irregular with a heart rate o...

Identify the following rhythms. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Answers 1. 3rd degree heart block The rhythm is regular with a ventricular rate of 38/min.  There are small upright P waves present but they are not paired with a QRS complex.  The atrial rate is 65/min.   No ectopic beats are noted.   PR:  ---,  QRS:  .16 sec,  QT:  .44 sec.   Interpretation:  3rd degree heart block 2. Junctional rhythm The rhythm is regular with a rate of 38/min.   The P waves are absent.   The QRS complex is narrow.   No ectopic beats are seen.   PR:  ---,  QRS:  .08 sec,  QT:  .48 sec.   Interpretation: Junctional rhythm. 3. 1st degree AV block The rhythm is regular with a heart rate of 68/min.   The P waves are uniform, upright, and associated with a QRS complex.   The PR interval is prolonged.  No ectopic beats are...

Identify the following rhythms. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Answers 1. Bradycardia with a 1st degree AV block The rhythm is regular with a rate of 55/min.   The P waves are uniform, upright, and have a corresponding QRS complex.   The PR interval is prolonged.   No ectopic beats are noted.   PR:  .32 sec,  QRS:  .10 sec,  QT:  .40 sec. 2. Normal sinus rhythm The rhythm is regular with a heart rate of 79/min.   The P waves are positive and uniform.   No ectopic beats are seen.   PR:  .16 sec,  QRS:  .12 sec,  QT:  .40 sec. 3. Sinus rhythm with artifact The rhythm looks regular.  There is artifact which obscures the P waves.   The artifact may be due to a loose lead or movement by the patient. 4. Sinus rhythm with bigeminal PACs The rhythm is irregular due to the PACs.    The h...

Identify the following rhythms. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Answers 1. 1st degree AV block with a PVC The rhythm is irregular with a PVC.   The heart rate is 60/min.    The P waves are upright and are associated with a QRS complex.   The PR interval is prolonged.    A single PVC is present.   PR:  .44 sec.  QRS:  .16 sec,  QT:  .50 sec. 2. Agonal rhythm The rhythm is irregular.    The rate is 20/min.   No P waves are seen.   The QRS complex is wide suggesting a rhythm of ventricular origin.   PR:  ---,  QRS:  .20 sec,  QT:  .56 sec.   3. Atrial fibrillation with slow ventricular response The rhythm is irregular with a rate of 40/min.    No P waves are seen.   Some fibrillation is present...

Identify the following rhythms. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Answers 1. 2nd degree heart block type II The rhythm is irregular with a ventricular rate of 20/min and an atrial rate of  75/min.   The P waves are upright but not all of them are paired with a QRS complex.  No ectopic beats are noted.  The QRS complex is wide.   PR:  .20 sec,  QRS:  .12 sec,  QT:  .64 2. 2nd degree heart block type I The rhythm is irregular with a heart rate of 50/min.   The P waves are upright and uniform.    There is a nonconducted P wave after the 2nd complex.    The PR interval progressively lengthens over successive beats.   PR:  .20/.24/.32sec,  QRS:  .08 sec,  QT:  .40 sec 3. 3rd degree heart block The rhythm is regular with a ventricular rate of 30/min and an atrial rate of 100/min.   The P waves are upright and unifor...
